Engagement Rings Start With a Setting FAQs
9ct and 18ct white gold engagement rings are both beautiful options for your special day, but they do have some key differences that you need to consider. For example, 9ct white gold will have a lower gold content than 18ct white gold and will also contain more palladium. While this usually makes 9ct white gold whiter in colour than 18ct white gold, it's also less hard-wearing as palladium is a softer metal.
While white gold can be resized, not all ring shapes and styles can be. If your white gold engagement ring is complex in design, it may be easier to attach a smaller ring to the existing one.
We get asked frequently whether or not you can wear your white gold engagement ring in the shower, pool or hot tub. Unfortunately, chlorine can cause discolouration to the band and stone. In order to avoid having a cloudy diamond or a tarnished gold band, take your engagement ring off before going in a pool or hot tub.
Remove any white gold rings before you carry out dirty or hands-on tasks. This will help keep the metal clean and shiny so that when you wear them again, they will look just as good as when you first bought them. Don't swim while wearing white gold as the chemicals in the water (chlorine) can react with the plating. If this happens, you may notice that your ring has turned yellow. Try to also remove the ring when you’re sleeping or bathing.
White gold engagement rings are the perfect way to commemorate your love, and they're built to last. With proper care and maintenance, your white gold engagement ring can last a lifetime!
